Public Policy Polling just released the first poll on the Montana Senate race since Steve Daines entered the race, and here’s what they said:
“…but at this point, it doesn’t really matter which one runs against current at-large Rep. Steve Daines next fall—they both are down double digits.” – Public Policy Polling Memo, “Daines favored for Baucus’ seat,” 11/19/13
Here are the highlights:
Daines leads with more than 50 percent of the vote against Democrat opponents:Daines leads John Bohlinger, 51 percent to 36 percent and John Walsh, 52 percent to 35 percent.
Daines leads Democrat candidates by double digits: Daines is leading Democrat John Bohlinger by 15 points and Democrat John Walsh by 17 points.
Here’s what they’re saying about Steve Daines and the recent poll:
Daines holds “early advantage” over Democrats: “A new poll about the 2014 elections in Montana is out, and it shows U.S. Representative Steve Daines (R-MT) and other Republicans with an early advantage over Democrats.” (Sanjay Talwani, “Poll shows Daines leading both Democratic rivals in U.S. Senate race,” KRTV, 11/19/2013)
Daines is in the “driver’s seat” in Montana Senate race: “Republicans see Montana’s open Senate seat as a key piece of their puzzle to win the chamber next year — and a new poll suggests that Rep. Steve Daines, the top GOP candidate in the race, is in good shape to pick up the seat.” (Emily Schultheis, “Montana Senate race 2014 poll: Steve Daines in driver’s seat,” POLITICO, 11/19/2013)
Daines is “up big” in the race for Montana’s Senate seat: “Rep. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) is starting off with a big lead in his bid to replace retiring Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), according to a new poll from the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling… Democrats will have to make up a lot of ground to keep control of Montana’s Senate seat.” (Cameron Joseph, “Dem poll: Republican Daines up big in Montana Senate race,” The Hill, 11/19/2013)
Daines numbers “bad news” for Democrats: “PPP’s new Montana numbers contain little but bad news for Democrats. In the state’s open Senate race, GOP Rep. Steve Daines, who recently announced his candidacy, leads Lt. Gov. John Walsh 52-35 and former Lt. Gov. John Bohlinger 51-36.” (David Nir, “PPP’s new Montana poll offers tough news for Democrats trying to hold Senate seat,” Daily Kos, 11/19/2013)
